OVERVIEWStudents looking to spend their summer making films need look no further than NYFA’s digital film camps offered at the Academy’s locations in Sydney and the Gold Coast. Based on the Academy’s pioneering curriculum of learning by doing that has produced numerous successful filmmakers, students get the singular experience of working with cutting-edge HD digital video cameras, lighting equipment, and editing software in the production of their own original films. Each student enrolling in a digital film camp will write, direct, produce, and edit his or her own film while also gaining invaluable experience working on their fellow students’ projects to equip them with extensive on-set experience.
Working with NYFA’s elite faculty of accomplished filmmakers who remain active in the entertainment industry, aspiring filmmakers are completely immersed in the many aspects of filmmaking over the course of their camp. Instructors provide hands-on instruction to students in the areas of screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, and producing to fully expose each student to the demanding, yet rewarding process of filmmaking.
Enrolling at either the Academy’s Sydney or Gold Coast locations, film camp students not only get to work with top-notch equipment and faculty, but get the truly unique experience of filming in some of the many rich film locations available in Australia. By the end of their camp experience, students not only leave the Academy with a practical know-how of the elements and skills needed to successfully shoot and edit an original film project, but also benefit from immersing themselves in the rich culture and gorgeous natural environment of Australia.
These programs offers students the opportunity to learn new skills, through our hands-on, industry specific, short workshops. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of attendance.
Camp ProgramsStudents have the option to enroll in one of the following camps at either the Academy’s Sydney or Gold Coast locations.
- One-Week Digital Movie Camp: Over the course of a single week, students in the One-Week Digital Movie Camp commit themselves to a fast-paced camp that will expose them to the essential demands and skills required in digital filmmaking. Students begin their week intensely studying the essentials of filming with an HD camera, script writing, and filming, which they then actively apply through the creation and editing of an original film project. Designed as a comprehensive introduction into the world of filmmaking, students leave camp with the know-how and drive to shoot their own films and many students often return to the Academy for a longer program to further develop their skills.
- Three-Week Digital Filmmaking Camp: Held at the Academy’s state-of-the-art facilities in either Sydney or the Gold Coast, aspiring filmmakers spend three weeks not simply learning the essentials of filmmaking, but actively applying those skills in the creation of two original film projects. Each week, students get extensive experience in script writing, camera work, producing, and editing while also working with students in the Academy’s acting camps to bring their original stories to life. Upon completing the camp, each student’s final project is celebrated through a public screening where friends, family, and their fellow students are able to see their hard work on the big screen.
